BILL BENNETT: SO WHAT IF WE'RE STILL IN IRAQ IN 10 YEARS?

Heard Bill Bennett this morning on his radio show saying, So what if we're still in Iraq in 5, 7, 10 years and lose 1,000 troops' lives a year? That's what they signed on for when they enlisted, after all. They knew they could die. Then Bennett's sidekick said, And you know, when I enlisted they asked me to catalog all my scars so they could identify my body if I was killed. We all know we could die.

Isn't it interesting that the wingnuts consider the people with this type of thinking and/or sentiment as "supportive of the troops" -- but those who advocate withdrawal of our military from Iraq because our guys are targets for the insurgents are "military haters."

Bizarro World.

Terrifying.

That was one of the selling points when they went to the all volunteer army, that people would be less likely to object to deployments for just that reason. Happened after Viet Nam.

I was just sickened at the callousness of that bloated oaf's tone. "Compassionate conservative" indeed. The implication was "What do you think we pay them for, anyway, if not to serve as cannon fodder in order to prove our far-fetched theories about remaking the world in our image?"

I agree. Notice that all the people who are now for the war have no military experience and generally come out of policy positions or think tanks.
