What a fabulous family vacation, driving a van full of Motherlodes and Sages through ten U.S. states plus the District of Columbia! I'm completely out of touch with the news of the day, which I hope to catch up on as quickly as possible. But the long break was welcome and much-needed. I'm almost reluctant to dive back into politics and the ugliness that's confronted us for the past six years. But what can we do? Every voice, every vote counts, and the midterm elections are just over four months away.

"This generation of Americans has a rendezvous with destiny" reads the engraving on the wall in the bottom picture (shot at the FDR Memorial). Have those words ever been more true?

Welcome Back!!

Sounds like you had a wonderful time! We have a trip to DC on the list of things to do with the short person in our family. I just hope it isn't like a trip to the family graveyard where all we are doing is remembering what was.

Ouch. It wasn't quite like that, but I'm afraid we did do quite a bit of that, especially at the Lincoln, Jefferson, and FDR memorials, and the National Archives. Where are the men and women of courage, of heart and vision, such as they, to lead our nation today? It makes me wonder, is the problem rather that our national values and institutions have been so corrupted that men like they cannot surface in our current culture?

As an aside, our short person is named Valor. That's the one quality we need desperately again in America if we are to rebuild this great nation.
