OBAMA AND GAY AMERICA

I'm mystified as to why prominent gay Americans such as John Aravosis would be so pro-Obama. Here's just a sample of John's previous posts about Obama's embrace of homophobic entertainer Donnie McClurkin. What has happened to make John so pro-Obama? He wasn't always.

I wonder if it isn't just a matter of wanting to be one of the Kool Kidz, like Josh Marshall and Markos Moulitsas, those intrepid Obamabots.

One of the first things Bill Clinton tried to do as president was to enable gays to serve openly in the military. That took a lot of guts, when it was obvious that the anti-Clinton armed forces (He tried to get a draft deferment, for gosh sakes! He opposed the Vietnam War!) would have a hissy fit. When Colin Powell and other top generals had that predictable swoon, he had to settle for the "Don't ask, don't tell" compromise, which was still an improvement over the past. Clinton's efforts to enfranchise gays into mainstream society could have, and effectually did, compromised his entire relationship with the military brass, which he knew was fragile at best. But he stuck his chin out nonetheless.

Some reward. Now Aravosis backs a candidate who promoted a gay-bashing entertainer to suck up to a fundamentalist South Carolina electorate.

I think you're absolutely correct. America Blog wants to be considered one of the big "boyz" so it has completed turned into Hillary Hateland.

I was equally surprised as John screams bloody murder at any homosexual slight by anyone...oh, except Barack Obama.

It only makes sense if you conclude that he's pandering to the other "guyz".

Well living in the Castro in SF, I can say this, it is only the leadership of various gay organizations that have made a leap of faith unto Obama. I think you have to look at the timing of such endorsements. They primarily came in the period that Obama's support was swelling and that the gay leadership was afraid of being left without influence in the Obama camp. However among gays themselves, they remain in the Clinton camp or have drifted into McCain's camp. I have been surprised how many of many neighbors are toying with McCain, especially those 40 and older.

I've been a long time Americablog reader and somewhat shocked at how hateful the site has become. They are now using exact quotes used by the GOP in the 90's against both Hillary and Bill calling them "Billary", "Shillary", "a witch/bitch" and other outrageous stuff. It's insane and sewing a lot of seeds of discontent. How can they expect Hillary supporters to join Obama's campaign after they Hillary people have been called evil, racist, scum?
